Artist Statement

Cynthia Roelle's photographs of war-torn Iraq have won international acclaim. Using a camera to chronicle her time there and reveal all that she saw, she captured images that are both haunting and historic. About her images, Cynthia says, "I was not attempting to use my photographs to make a political statement. I hope the images invoke feeling and cause the viewer to examine the nature and meaning of power, politics and empire. To me, they reveal an overwhelming sense of loss, the transitory nature of power and the price we all pay for war."

Having traveled to more than 30 countries, Cynthia has documented her experiences through photography. Through the lens, she exposes the beauty in the ordinary. Her travel images often portray familiar scenes viewed from a distinctive vantage.

Cynthia now brings her documentary style of photography home to you. Sessions are designed to capture the events, big or small, of your family's life. From baseball games to dance recitals, play time to nap time, and any occasion in between, Cynthia will photograph you or your family at home or at the location of your choosing.
